Is Apu Nahasapeemapetilon a racist charcter?

The Simpsons is one of the most well-loved cartoons in all of history and is full of many lovable comedic characters that all have their own charm. However, the problem with so many characters is that certain people may take offense to them, and this isn't more evident with any other character than Apu.

Apu Nahasapeemapetilon is an Indian Immigrant in the town of Springfield that runs a convenience store called "The Kiwk-E-Mart". The humour surrounding Apu mostly consists of Indian stereotypes including his exaggerated accent despite him being voiced by Frank Azaria, a white man. So with all these things, is Apu a racist character? I think not. While Apu may use racial stereotypes, his character is not an attack on Indian or other brown people. The voice of Apu even stated how upset he was that people found him to be a racist character. Jokes and comedy relating to race can at times, be racist, but they can also be innocent. Anyone is subject to racist humour, why be offended by it when it's all in good fun. Apu is not a racist character because he isn't intended to make Indian people offended. Apu is the kind of character that makes us laugh at ourselves.
